High School 5K and Middle School 3K Invitationals

Register here

One of the goals common to both Run NB and the Capital City Road Runners is the celebration of running as part of a healthy lifestyle. In an effort to promote further the sport of running among youth, two events were added to the roster in 2003. Due to the overwhelming participation in these events and the feedback received, the High School and Middle School Invitationals have been made a permenant part of the Fall Classic and invitations have been extended to all High Schools and Middle Schools throughout New Brunswick [and beyond, if they wish to come].

Eligibility

High School 5K Invitational
The High School 5K Invitational is open to all athletes who are between the ages of 15 & 19 and are students at a High School in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia or Prince Edward Island as of Race Day.

Middle School 3K Invitational
The Middle School 3K Invitational is open to all athletes who are students 14 years of age or younger at a Middle School in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia or Prince Edward Island as of Race Day.

Awards

Individual Awards
Medals will be awarded to the first three male and first three female finishers in both the High School 5K and Middle School 3K Invitational events.

Team Awards
The High School 5K and Middle School 3K Invitationals are team events.  Certificates will be awarded to the members of teams finishing 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each event.

Team scores will be calculated in the cross-country scoring manner as follows:

  • The first five finishers from each team score; that is, the sum total of the place numbers of the first five runners from a team is its score.  The team with the lowest score wins. [Should one team have five runners finish in the top five places in the race, the resulting score for that team would be "15" (1+2+3+4+5=15), which is a perfect score.]

  • The first seven finishers from each team place; that is, each of these seven may displace runners from another team, causing its score to be higher.

  • In the event of a tie in team scoring, the win shall go to the team with the faster fifth finisher.

  • Males and Females are scored separately (e.g. Each school will have a male and female team).
